Homeschooling While Sick: Yes, It’s Possible (and You’re Still Rocking It)

Sep 09, 2025

👉 Homeschooling when you’re sick.

Because let’s be honest—homeschool moms don’t exactly get sick days. The bell doesn’t magically stop ringing, the kids don’t stop asking for snacks, and life doesn’t pause for you to nap. But you can homeschool while sick—without guilt and without losing your sanity. Here’s how:

1) NO GUILT, Mama!

Repeat after me: “I am teaching my kids every single day—even when I’m horizontal on the couch.”

Seriously. You don’t need a Pinterest-perfect lesson plan when you’re feverish. Your kids are learning through life, conversation, and even through the occasional Netflix documentary. And if you’re feeling really stressed? That’s what we’re here for. Hand them over to your online teachers, let them play on Starfall, or throw on an educational movie. Consider it “independent study.” 😉

2) When in Doubt, Spice it Up

I meant to add this during Mom Talk, but time got away from us:

  • Ginger: Toss some ginger in your tea or soup. It’s anti-inflammatory and can help with congestion. Plus, it makes you feel like you’re being super fancy with your sick-day ramen.

  • Honey: Stir a spoonful into warm water or tea. Honey not only soothes your throat but also feels like you’re getting a gold star in natural medicine.

Little remedies go a long way when you’re running on fumes.

3) Fill Your Own Cup (Literally and Figuratively)

Most importantly—take care of you. You cannot pour from an empty cup, and yes, your “cup” currently looks like a chipped coffee mug filled with cold tea you reheated three times. But still. Rest. Nap. Say no.

If you need permission to rest, here it is:
Permission granted.
Your homeschool will not crumble. We will help you “catch up” if you ever even need to. But you, my friend, are doing amazing.

So go ahead, pull up the covers, sip something warm, and let learning take the form of peace and recovery. You’ve earned it.

💛 See you Thursday at Book Club or next Monday!
